The Western Ghats mountain range is one of the major tourist attraction in the country, also known as Sahyadhris range in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka state. Western Ghats sub ranges or Mountain hills are home to list of the highest peaks,gaps and so many undiscovered and endemic species of fauna along with major tourist attractions.
The Anaimalai mountain hill range is also known as Elephant Hill, located in Tamil Nadu and Kerala states. Anamudi is the highest peak of the Anaimalai Hills and also the tallest peak of the Western ghats located in the Idukki district of Kerala.
The Nilgiri mountains or Nilgiri Hills is home to at least 24 highest mountain summit above 2,000 metres, located at the junction of Tamil Nadu,Karnataka and Kerala. Nilgiris Hills or Blue Mountains is famous for its hill stations,Nilgiri Mountain Railway and national park along with endemic nilgiris animals andbirds.
The Palani Hills are another mountain sub-range of the Western Ghats ranges,lies between the Cumbum Valley,the Vaigai River valley and Kongunadu region. Palni Hills is protected as a wildlife sanctuary or Palani Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park.
The Cardamom Hills are famous for pepper and coffee plantation in the Western Ghats and under consideration as a World Heritage Site. Cardamom Hills mountainous terrain and deep valleys are home of three major rivers and famous Idukki Dam and Mullaperiyar Dam.
The Biligiriranga Hills range is one of the major hill range, located at the confluence of the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats. BRT Wildlife Sanctuary or Biligiriranga Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary is the herds of wild elephants.
Anamudi or Elephant Head is the tallest peak of the Western Ghats,highest point in South India and the highest mountain peak in India outside the great range of Himalaya-Karakoram mountain. The peak with an elevation of 2,695 m (8,842 ft) is located in the region of Eravikulam National Park near the Cardamom Hills.
Meesapulimala is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats,located in Idukki district of Kerala at an elevation of 2,640 metres (8,661 ft). The region of Meesapulimala are known for hiking,Treking and the scenic view of mountain landscapes.
Dodabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hill ranges at a height of 2623 meters (8652 feet) in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. Doddabetta peak along with near by reserved forest area and hill station of Ooty is the popular tourist attraction of Tamil Nadu.
The peak of Kolaribetta is one of the seven tallest summits of blue mountains of South India, with an elevation of 2,630 metres (8,629 ft). Avalanche hill is home of twin-peaks of Kudikkadu and Kolaribetta, located at Mukurthi National Park of Nilgiris.
The peak of Kudikkadu is also known as Avalanche Hill at an elevation of 2,590 metres (8,497 ft),located at Mukurthi National Park of Nilgiris. Kudikkadu peak is one of the high peaks in the Mukurthi National Park of Nilgiri Hills, other famous peaks are Mukurthi Peak,Pichalbetta and Derbetta.
The Palakkad Gap is one of the low mountain pass in the Western Ghats at an elevation of 300 metres (980 ft) in the Kerala. The mountain gap plays an important corridor between the two States and used to be the gateway to Kerala.
Golden Valley is located near the famous hill station of the Thiruvananthapuram, Ponmudi. Ponmudi or the Golden Peak is one of the major attractions of the region along with Golden Valley,Kallar River, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary,landscape and Menmutty Falls.

The Western Ghats is also home of globally threatened species of animals and many are endemic such as amphibian and reptilian classes.
The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the Nilgiri Hills in Kongu Nadu region of Tamil Nadu is
home to several endangered and vulnerable species of Indian wildlife such as Indian elephant, Bengal Tiger, Gaur, endangered Indian White-rumped Vulture,long-billed vulture and Indian Leopard. It works as Wildlife Corridor and connects all the national park and Wildlife Sanctuaries of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve Natural Park.
The Western Ghats of India is home to many wildlife sanctuaries and national parks and the protected area is home to several endangered and vulnerable species of Indian animals and birds. These parks and Sanctuaries are the part of Nilgiri biosphere reserve forest and an important wildlife corridor between the Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats.
